"Speaking of..." Series
This is a part of the "Speaking of Pittsburgh" Series I found on Motionographer.com. I thought it was a very cool use of 2D with 3D objects that came together to create this very short video.

Parkour Motion Reel
This was a video I found from Vimeo's own best 28 stop motion animations page and totally agree! In the credits, she said this was only an experiment and didn't really like it too much. But the whole entire concept was so amazing.. down to her actually flipping through all of the drawings that she did like it was a flipbook. Normally, you would see this done in motion - it brings a new energy and life to something that would look like any old drawn in animation.

Florian Stumpe
I found this on motionspire.com and thought this was a very interesting of being able to showcase a lot of the ideas for the showcase using various styles that really appealed to me in a scientific way. It sort of reminds me of the more creepier sci-fi films like Contagion that uses the different 3D dimensional elements to portray a sort of "virus". Very cool effect and made a major impact!

Volkswagen Think Blue
This is a video I found as a part of Volkswagen's campaign called "Think Blue". What the video is emphasizing in very simple, illustrative "Sim-like" style that people should begin to think about the environment around them and how they can help in changing their lifestyle to save their environment. When I say "Sim-like", I mean how they're able to use just very simple symbols to represent fresh water or carpooling; and people instantly understand what you mean. It also has a very "Mad Men" sort of feel through the same style as the main character in the opening scene carried throughout; as a result, the people can be any person and not discriminating against certain people.

Mad Men
I remembered this amazing motion graphics and realized it was in the Communication Arts Design Annual 2008. But there's a reason why everyone loves this show (and this introduction!). It combines the great pictures of the 1960's and creates a simple silhouette that could practically be anyone (but it's of course the lead male character in the show); keeps the suspense up throughout. Simply one of the best out there right now!

Range Ton Bazar
Range Ton Bazar from Mathias Lachal on Vimeo.
This video I found once again on MotionSpire.com and found this very inspiring. One of our projects last semester was to take our green screen shots and "cartoonize" ourselves for 5 seconds in After Effects; and I think this demonstrates the capabilities of taking it beyond the green screen. I love the concept of the back of his t-shirt then "cartoonizing" himself with octopus-like arms, cleaning up the room. It's a very simple color palette and effectively tells a simple story. I wish I could have a t-shirt that could do this for me!

CFDA "Joan and Zac"
CFDA "Joan and Zac" from Nola Pictures on Vimeo.
This I found from the Communication Arts Design Annual 2007 that I found to be very cool for several reasons. The first is it reminds me one of my favorite videos I watched called Voices because of the way they integrate an actual interview into an integrated story full of different metamorphosis. Also, because it has so many different line styles and usage of gray scale and does resemble very deeply a fashion sketch. As you can see, Joan's face isn't even all the way outlined like in Voices but you still get a sense that it's her. So shocking this was hardly done with any color but in her remembering about the 60's! I hope there are more videos like this in the near future (or I could make a video like it).

The ABCs in Motion Graphics
I found this on a really cool motion graphics website called motionspire.com. It has a lot of very cool motion graphics and I'm going to be going here often! This motion graphic that I found is called The Alphabet 2, and it's an experiment (and a cool way of showing the alphabet). It does a good job of taking word(s - depending on the letter) and tying everything together. Such as A for anamorphosis, where you see from top perspective it's a simple triangle to end up eventually seeing it straight on and it forms the letter; then B for biscuit, which a strange purple arm comes in and begins to break it a part, eventually all of it being gone. I think you get the idea. From beginning to end, it kept me entertained and never let down! I wish I could've learned the alphabet in a similar fashion.
